National Institute on Aging

Postdoc: Neuroimaging Studies of Cognitive Decline and Resilience, Dr. Susan Resnick

The National Institute on Aging (NIA), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), is recruiting postdoctoral fellows with interest in cognitive and brain aging in the Laboratory of Personality and Cognition (LPC).

Since 1994, we have been performing serial structural and functional (PET-CBF) brain imaging studies of participants in the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging. More recently, these studies have included PET studies of amyloid deposition in vivo. Extensive databases of medical, neuropsychological, and imaging data are available to test novel hypotheses on predictors of cognitive decline in older adults and factors that may accelerate or protect against cognitive decline and impairment (e.g., genetic, hormonal, nutritional, medication use). In addition, resources are available for the development of novel projects using structural and functional MRI methods to investigate age differences in particular cognitive domains. Our program involves extensive collaboration with the Johns Hopkins University neuroscience and imaging communities and the image processing group of Dr. Christos Davatzikos of the University of Pennsylvania.

The successful candidate will have research interests in the related fields of psychology/neuroscience, experience with analysis of neuropsychological or neuroimaging data, and strong writing skills. Fellowship duration is typically 3-4 years. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D. in psychology/neuroscience with less than five years of postdoctoral research experience. The position is located in Baltimore, MD, a city with a stimulating scientific and cultural environment. Salary is commensurate with experience and accomplishments (http://www.training.nih.gov/stipends.asp). Initial appointment is one to two years, with extension up to five years. Positions are open until filled.

To apply, click on the link below, or send curriculum vitae, statement of research interests, relevant publications, and contact information of three references to Susan Resnick, Ph.D., Acting Chief, Laboratory of Personality and Cognition at Susan.Resnick@nih.gov or mail to: Biomedical Research Center, 251 Bayview Blvd, Suite 100, Room 4B335, Baltimore, MD 21224-6825. Additional information regarding the NIA IRP and the LPC are available at the following web sites: http://www.grc.nia.nih.gov and http://www.grc.nia.nih.gov/branches/lpc/lpc.htm.

HHS and NIH are Equal Opportunity Employers

The NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community in its training and employment programs.
