FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid, Merit Scholarships, Pell Grants, Financial Aid for High School Seniors. Submit electronically the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). All students interested in financial aid for college will need to complete this form.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is your starting point for most student financial assistance programs.
Submitting the FAFSA
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the starting point for all student financial assistance programs. Many states as well as schools also use the FAFSA as part of their application process for non-federal aid.
The FAFSA is a comprehensive form. Be ready to supply comprehensive details about your family's income as well as income taxes from the previous year, assets, family size, the number of family members attending college, and more.
Eiligibility
A student who can meet the following criteria may be eligible for aid:
- is a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or an eligible non-citizen;
- has a valid Social Security number;
- has a high school diploma or GED or for adult students, pass an Ability-to-Benefit test;
- is registered with the U.S. Selective Service (male students age 18-25);
- completes a FAFSA promising to use any federal aid for education purposes;
- does not owe refunds on any federal student grants;
- is not in default on any student loans; and
- has not been found guilty of the sale or possession of illegal drugs while federal aid was being received.
